    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The job was not technical enough for me really. Would recommend for someone looking to get into the business side of IT

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very friendly and helpful colleagues. Organised work nights out to get to know everyone. I felt I fitted into the team very quickly

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor in particular was very helpful. A six month review period helps you to get the most out of the second six months of your placement. This provides lots of information of where you are performing and where you can improve.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Workload in IT Support always varies, some days were packed with issues others were very quite. However project work on the side helped to fill in the gaps.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given an active role in several key projects. However projects will only be undertaken if the support role is filled correctly.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained a variety of skills during the placement, most of them were not what I thought I would gain at the beginning of the year but all of them were much more valuable than what I thought I would need.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Office banter was pretty good! Although a lot depends on your supervisor and team.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Fantastically organised from start to finish.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I attended one internal course throughout the year. The rest of the training was really on the job training.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company do take placement students as graduates, however in recent years due to the financial down turn the number of students taken on per year has decreased significantly.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were lots of placement students working at the same site. However the majority of these were Biology and Chemistry students.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading was pretty cheap, being a student town there are plenty of cheap places to go.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lived near Reading so there were plenty of nights out! Weekends only though as work had to take priority.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Every year the company do a day of service.

    3/5
