The Role
The placement has been an excellent experience, the company is well organised, friendly and helpful. My work has been varied, the placement is structured so that you work for the HR department and do 3/6 months placements in a range of different departments
All colleagues in all departments have been supportive and helpful
My supervisors have been very patient and supportive, I have been given time to learn and understand the work and help whenever necessary
My managers/ supervisors have always been happy to give me work when it was available
A lot of my work requires supervision, you are given reposibilty where possible but not put in a position where you will make serious mistakes that could cause problems
I've been able to use a lot of what I've learnt in my degree, which has made it seem so much more useful and relevant, and showed me how much harder it is in a real life situation
The Company
Both my offices have been friendly and social
Its a very good setup because the department doesn't need to set aside hours for you to learn in, and training can suggest departments to suit.
I've done a helicopter familiaristation course within the company, presentation skills course, DISC profile, two separate undergraduate projects one working externally with local schools, a Gear Design Training course, ITAR training and been shown the work of lots of other departments
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
The company runs an engineering graduate scheme
The Culture
There was only 8 undergrads this year but there was lots of grads and apprentices around
There are pubs and 2 clubs in Yeovil, for the size of the town the scene is good, and there's relatively easy transport to other places. Public transports a bit irregular and expensive though but most places are walking distance (except the station for trains to London!)
Its nto a university town so don't really have the student scene you would be used to from uni
There are several student associations who organise lots of events outside work
