    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I couldn't have asked for a better experience; from the people I have had the opportunity to work alongside, to the responsibilities I have been given, I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent with Mace

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Every singly member of the team has played a part in making me feel at home from the very first day. My colleges have done all they can to not only make me feel comfortable in my roles but to make sure I gain the most I can from every task.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Full support was always available and at times very much required. I always had someone I could turn to, if needed, who would either advise me on the best course to take or they would take me out on site, explain what was being asked and show me an example of what would be required.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the start I had time to get to know the site, the members of the Mace team and their roles and responsibilities, and how a Mace site operated. As soon as I felt comfortable, the list of jobs I was required to do increased and as I became more and more competent, what was expected of me also increased which kept me more than busy every day.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • This did increase as my time with Mace went on. At the start I was eased into roles and would spend time shadowing a manager until I felt comfortable to do what was being asked of me by myself. Towards the end of the year as my technical knowledge and abilities improved I was required to carry out a lot more and as such was kept bust every day.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • What I have learnt in my placement year has been invaluable. From learning onsite to training sessions off site I have been inundated with opportunities to broaden my knowledge and what I have learnt will not only advance my career in the short term, but stay with me for life

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very upbeat, enthusiastic and motivational

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was very well organised. I was never left in the dark about anything, I was well informed about upcoming events, training schedules and appointments and If I felt I needed anything clarifying, I always had someone to turn to.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • From the outset I felt like one of the team. Training sessions were provided on a regular basis, I was invited into numerous meeting to keep me updated with programme changes, coordination between trades and key dates / key date changes. I was included in daily walk around with subcontractors and invited to ask questions as much as possible which vastly improved my technical knowledge.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • My line manager recommended me for future employment with Mace so if all goes well I will be coming straight back once I have completed my final year

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We were encouraged to network as much as possible with fellow placement colleagues as well as people on the graduate programme. This involved, group meetings, visits to other peoples sites, team events and socialising on a regular basis. I found it extremely helpful to have someone to talk to who is in the same position as me.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London obviously has its financial implications however my accommodation was very cheap and Mace paid for my travel costs to work so I did actually have money left over each month for going out and sampling the city.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Unparalleled. London has everything you could ever need and much more. Whether I wanted a quiet drink with friends or a full night out, London can facilitate anything.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work however I did feel I had to pass up on a few due to the scale of work everyone on my site had. if I were to take time off work, this would impact on the people I work around so I felt I had a duty to them to complete my works. Saying this however, the opportunities were always there if I wanted.
