The Role
So far I have enjoyed my time at Hays very much. Everyday something unexpectable is guaranteed to happen; working in such a fast paced environment you can always look forward to the day ahead!
I have been very fortunate to work out of two offices and this has meant working with lots of different consultants who are all at various levels. The culture between colleagues can described as quite family oriented and even though recruitment can be stressful and demanding everyone has been so supportive of each other and always willing to help.
From day 1 I was provided with support and guidance. There is a whole training programme that you participate in from day 1 and extra sessions are held throughout the year.
Most of the time, every hour of your day will be planned out. Sometimes it can get a bit too much however that's a lot better than having nothing to do.
My main position as candidate manager meant that I was responsible for all candidate related tasks. However when colleagues were on annual leave I would be the first person chosen to look after their desk whilst away which meant dealing with the clients and candidates, this was a lot of responsibility but provided greater experience with dealing with a completely different specialism.
The main skills I have improved on the most are my organisation and communication skills. These are paramount to the success of a recruitment desk. The greatest benefit from working with Hays is the knowledge of what recruitment is and how it works. It has made me realise how I will go about my own job search in the future and how businesses conduct their recruitment which will give me the head start against every other candidate.
The Company
Without a shadow of a doubt both offices that I was working in had a real buzz. At times you could not even hear yourself think properly as the team spirit was so high and because everyone was on the phone the noise level was through the roof! With the sounds of bells and air horns going off as people made placements and filled jobs there was a real sense of enjoyment going on.
On the whole the year was carefully designed and implemented in such a way that comparing to some of my friends on other internships mine was second to none.
Hays definitely invested a lot of time, training workshops and even a specialist LinkedIn recruiter license (which very few people in the whole UK have)

Very appealing indeed, Hays not only has opportunities all over the UK, but worldwide too! They offer very competitive salaries with a strong commission structure and invest a lot of time and training in you!
The Culture
Due to interns being spread around various locations it was very difficult to build a social scene, however at general Christmas and regional meetings we all got to know each other a lot better
Initially my main office was located in Croydon, London. This meant a lot of careful budgeting! London is fairly expensive however it is not impossible to work in this type of area. My second office is in Brighton, luckily my travel costs were covered by Hays. All in all if you stick to your budget you shouldn’t have too much of an issue.
Living in Croydon meant travel links to the city were very good and meant some really good night outs equally working out of Brighton meant a cheaper yet just as good night out
There were lots of opportunities to participate in football and charity events
