About You
I really enjoyed the experience, especially the second week in the school. Teach First encourages all participants to spend time together outside of the programme which makes the whole two weeks very fun!
I definitely felt valued as a potential LDP participant and as a STEM university student. We were reminded how important what we were doing was throughout the whole experience.
A lot of the first week is dedicated to guidance and ensuring you are ready to go into the school. Then, when you are in the school, heads of departments and other teachers are brilliant at answering any questions you might have.
I feel the experience allowed me to develop communication skills in a new way and provided me with the chance to work in a professional environment.
The Company
The first week was very well structures with a timetable provided for every day in advance. The second week was slightly less structured as it was in the school but there was still plenty to do and learn.
I loved the whole atmosphere, the first week is really exciting and informative. The second week was a really creative atmosphere.
The first week there was a lot of personal training and development with plenty of worksheets/workbooks completed and taken away.
The insight programme gives you the best idea of it can in two weeks. The only thing which could be better is if more time was spent in the school.
The first week really gives you a good idea of the company culture and what the Teach First values are.
I found the whole experience incredibly helpful, it allowed me to experience real responsibility and teaching a class which helped me make an informed decision about whether I wanted to be a teacher.
Everything Else
For the two weeks I was paid £500 and provided with accommodation including breakfast which I think was very generous.
The first week there were a number of employees and past employees most days who we're available for networking before and after speaking.
All participants were offered accommodation which meant there were plenty of opportunities to network and socialise. Also, on the first and last day a trip to the pub after work was organised which was attended by participants and current Teach First employees.
We were told about some of the social enterprises set up by other Teach First participants and about some after school clubs which could be run.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend as I really enjoyed the whole two weeks and feel that I learnt a lot from my time there.
