    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed it. The vacation scheme was very well organised, providing us with the opportunity to engage in 'live' work, look at some legal case studies, and interact with lawyers of all levels (trainees through to partners) on a day to day basis. The social events were also a lot of fun, including pizza making and a comedy club trip.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • My trainee 'buddy' was happy to give me some of his work to help him on, which we then reported on to a senior associate. Being able to contribute to such work made me feel very valued, even if I was performing the more basic tasks such as research or drafting documents.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My trainee 'buddy' was constantly on hand to help me out, happy to answer any questions which arose. Graduate recruitment were also very helpful whatever was asked of them, and they were only ever an email away.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The ability to read large amounts of information and offer a concise summary of it was well practiced on this placement, and is something that I hope to transfer to other areas of study. I also gained a better understanding of how to interact with co-workers.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structure and organised. We were provided with a timetable at the start of the fortnight, and this was stuck to. We were emailed about any events we were invited to.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Really friendly and engaging. Everyone was happy to talk to me and offer me work when they had some that I could do. Would thoroughly recommend the firm for its atmosphere, in the Birmingham office at least!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm gave us a supervisor who was a qualified solicitor, or associate. They spent time with us going through our objectives for the placement, and we were able to talk to them about how well we were moving towards these. The firm also seems to invest a lot in their trainees, both as lawyers and as people.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It helped me greatly. It gave me a real understanding of the culture and atmosphere of the firm, what it's like to work here and how people interact with one another. You can't get this same sense from a website or career brochure.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Greatly. Very friendly and supportive culture. Not hierarchical, with partners happy to work, talk and joke with people at all levels - makes a change from a lot of other law firms!

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It has confirmed to me that I want to pursue a career as a commercial lawyer, so it was pretty valuable!

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Paid generously, and travel expenses for the induction day were reimbursed.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, at drinks in the office, at lunch with some partners, and at social events attended by numerous trainees.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were very enjoyable, although I was not able to meet lots of people outside of my department.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Sport, charity and community work, and socialising were all talked about. Seemed like they had a very good work-life balance, even if some weeks can be heavier than
