    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It is a great learning experience into working in Marketing, and a large international company. The work and projects you are involved in are always changing meaning there is no chance to get bored of the same thing. Working at the European HQ means you are working with very high managers, which is a great experience and you can learn a lot from.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My direct team in particular value the work I do. In the office, you also are often interacting and assisting people from different teams who are thankful. Across Europe you have constant daily interaction, emails and phone calls with European countries, who are always especially grateful for the work you do.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Weekly meetings with my manager were held to give updates on the work I was doing, to set the work for the coming week and for general help and assistance with things I was unsure of. If I ever needed help I could ask my manager at any time which meant there are a few worries.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were very busy, for example if you were working on a big project or it was a busy period for Avis. Other days were much quieter, but the balance was good as you didn’t get too bored or too stressed. A lot of the work I do is dependent on what the countries are doing so if they have a lot going on, then I would usually be busy too. Avis is also impacted heavily by travel and tourism so that reflects how busy we are.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility from the start. This shocked me at first but I soon got used to it and enjoyed having responsibility as it made me proud of what I was achieving. Of course there are other tasks that are a lot less responsibility, but again this was a good balance and was a nice break at times.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working for 12 months immersed in Marketing will undoubtedly help me a lot back at uni, a lot more than I was originally expecting. I will be able to give first hand experience and examples in work that I do in my final year. I also experienced and became familiar with many things which didn’t make much sense to me at uni, such as content management systems, CRM etc. General skills such as communicating in a professional manner, communicating with people where English isn’t their first language and time and organisational skills will help me in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Some days were very quiet with people away on business or working from home; others were busier.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. Avis have had placement students for some years now so know what to do/how to organise etc.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The opportunity for training, development and courses etc are there if you want them. If you feel they would help you, Avis are keen for you to do it as they went you to develop as much as you can.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • You would know the business and the area you work in extremely well which would be advantageous.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Although only 3 other placement students, we socialised together, ate lunch together etc. This was enjoyable as you weren't completely out of your comfort zone. The canteen also gives you opportunities to meet other people.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Rent was relatively expensive but this was to be expected as it is the South. Coming from uni in Birmingham where it is a lot cheaper made it noticeable to me. However as you are earning each month it is easy to get by.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading (20 mins away from Bracknell) has a good nightlife as there are 2 unis there. There are lots and lots of bars and a few clubs, so there is always something going on.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • You receive "sport and social" emails giving offers, discounts and other opportunities.

    3/5
