The Role
In general, I enjoyed the projects and work I did. It was a steep learning curve. Moreover, one of the advantages was that there were four placements. So, if one turned out to be boring, you may find something better in 3 months.
I found that apart from one odd department, the departments were tightly knitted. But, due to sheer size of the company, the variance was high
The support from Trainee Manager was not the type of standard I would expect. There was no option to go on a training course.
I was busy enough for the most part of my placement to not to look at the clock and wait for 5 'o' clock
In general, the responsibility level was of the below average standard. But, in mathematical modelling, the responsibility level was high - 10 - and hence I would recommend anyone to work in that department
The technical and business skills I learned like finite element analysis, creating macros in excel, interacting with people, team working etc are absolutely priceless. By working in huge company like AW gives you a lot of skills which helps in the future career
The Company
It was good.
Our placements was designed by the Trainee Manager without asking undergraduates about their interests and it was difficult to get the placement plan altered once it was written
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Above 25 days holiday
For an international student, there are practically none. But, otherwise, the employment prospects are quite good
The Culture
The social scene was excellent. There was a social committee for apprentices & undergrads, and for postgrads. And one could have gone to socials organised by either committee. The were quite a few bowling and film night out as well. And, above all, one of the famous snooker leagues!
A major drawbacks of Yeovil
