The Role
Accenture was a really exciting place to work. There is a great atmosphere with the other placement students and I enjoyed being given a fair amount of responsibility and flexibility.
I definitely came away feeling valued. As the projects I was working on were useful and relevant to the work of my colleagues I felt like a fundamental part of the team by the end of the year.
There was a good amount of training available, and it was tailored to each individual employee so you could pick and choose what skills to develop. My manager gave me the time to learn new things and widen my skill set.
For most of the placement I was very busy, although towards the end when I was wrapping up and handing over all of my projects it was hard to get stuck in to anything.
I was given a lot more responsibility than I have heard of other placement students getting in other businesses. I cannot imagine where they could have given me more responsibility and it is awesome that they empower placement students like this.
My degree was not related to the placement, but from a business point of view and learning the ins and outs of a large company it was a very useful year.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the whole office (its huge) is great. You couldn't improve the facilities/lay-out and the hot desking works really well. My team, as mentioned, is spread across the country with the majority of the team home-based or field-based so our area of the office is often pretty quiet but my team members are all pretty friendly.
Accenture has a solid set up for students, with a buddy system and continuous involvement from the HR environment
Quite limited- very much 'learning on the job'. Would have appreciated a lot more courses and formal programs to attend. While I am really pleased with how I have developed- this has been through experiences rather than actual training. I haven't been on a single training course.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Future employment is definitely something I would accept - as the experience I've had is quite atypical of Accenture and I doubt anywhere else would offer as steep a learning curve.
The Culture
The placement students had a few nights out at the start- but then it becomes more team based. There isn't a massive social scene within my team but every gets on well and have had a few casual nights out across the year (not frequent though).
The office is in London where most people were living where obviously the cost of living is quite prohibitive but of course this doesn't stop anyone.
You can find everything you want in London. I have nothing much to say about it.
Outside of work there are a few activities people are welcome to get involved in such as charity bike rides, quarterlies and company sports tournaments. I have got involved in a few of these and they are always great fun.
