  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement very much. I started Vauxhall at an exciting time with the launch of the new Astra, seeing it progress from the pre production phase to saleable vehicles.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like a valued member of the quality team with my opinions and thoughts always valued by other members of staff. I felt I was contributing to the quality department during an extremely busy period for the plant.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had an experienced mentor who was always willing to assist with any issues I had, even during busy periods. I found everyone very approachable and willing to help although higher management rarely had the time to give support or guidance.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis I was very busy. I found myself staying late quite a few times and occasionally doing overtime, however this was to be expected due to the launch. I found myself with occasional quiet periods at the start of placement.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for the following: *Door quality defects on the new Astra and the current model. *Product trial run coordinator for Ellesmere Port Plant. *Presenter for STEM visits to schools/ colleges

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although my engineering knowledge may not have been improved massively I felt this placement developed skills I rarely used at university. This includes; presentation skills, communication and problem solving.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very good atmosphere. Everyone was approachable and up for a laugh.

  • I found the placement was organised well from both HR and my department with regular meetings to check on progress.

  • Although there is no graduate roles as such, select few undergraduates are offered a job after university.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Placement student went out every so often, usually to celebrate birthdays etc. Had a Christmas night out with colleagues within the quality office. Also played football occasionally after work with other undergrads

  • I cant really comment as I lived at home during placement.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Vauxhall Ellesmere Port plant is near Liverpool and Chester, both of which have good night life.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not many opportunities, occasionally played football and went for meals/ nights out etc however this was only between the undergraduates.
