The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Vauxhall in Cheshire!
From the outset I was integrated into a team of Engineers working on real projects, and delegated an equal share of responsibilities.
Couldn't have asked for a better support network. From day one, my boss has been incredibly helpful with regards to getting me up to speed in the role, which has allowed me to operate efficiently & to the best of my ability in everyday engineering tasks.
Extremely busy due to a new model launch.
Work into my department was split fairly equally between myself and my boss, and I was trusted to complete tasks to a high standard from the outset.
Coming from a Mechanical Engineering degree with a heavy enphasis on CAD, transitioning into this role (Layout Engineering) came as a natural extension to my studies, and will help enormously with any future education.
The Company
A very positive atmosphere, with a high level of banter amongst my colleagues.
A seamless transition. Vauxhall has been employing undergraduates for a number of years and it definately shows. The initial handover period was extremely well structured.
To a great extent! After the 2 week handover period I was flown business class to Opel Rüsselsheim to complete a week long General Motors specific AutoCAD course. A fantastic way to start the year!

I was offered an additional 12 month contract at an increased salary with a possibility of an indefinate position if a suitable vacancy became avaliable.
The Culture
Yes. We all chipped in for eachothers birthday's and organised a number of nights out.
Chester isnt the cheapest city to live in, but is doable if budgeted for!
Fantastic. There are a few brilliantly organised alternative nights in Chester. Would definately reccomend the nightlife here to anyone.
Coming from Uni I had worked as a DJ for a number of years, so managed to secure a residency at a very large monthly house night, and made a lot of new mates outside of work as a result!
