  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Vauxhall in Cheshire!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the outset I was integrated into a team of Engineers working on real projects, and delegated an equal share of responsibilities.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Couldn't have asked for a better support network. From day one, my boss has been incredibly helpful with regards to getting me up to speed in the role, which has allowed me to operate efficiently & to the best of my ability in everyday engineering tasks.

  • Extremely busy due to a new model launch.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Work into my department was split fairly equally between myself and my boss, and I was trusted to complete tasks to a high standard from the outset.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Coming from a Mechanical Engineering degree with a heavy enphasis on CAD, transitioning into this role (Layout Engineering) came as a natural extension to my studies, and will help enormously with any future education.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A very positive atmosphere, with a high level of banter amongst my colleagues.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A seamless transition. Vauxhall has been employing undergraduates for a number of years and it definately shows. The initial handover period was extremely well structured.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • To a great extent! After the 2 week handover period I was flown business class to Opel Rüsselsheim to complete a week long General Motors specific AutoCAD course. A fantastic way to start the year!

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered an additional 12 month contract at an increased salary with a possibility of an indefinate position if a suitable vacancy became avaliable.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. We all chipped in for eachothers birthday's and organised a number of nights out.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Chester isnt the cheapest city to live in, but is doable if budgeted for!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Fantastic. There are a few brilliantly organised alternative nights in Chester. Would definately reccomend the nightlife here to anyone.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Coming from Uni I had worked as a DJ for a number of years, so managed to secure a residency at a very large monthly house night, and made a lot of new mates outside of work as a result!
