    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed my yearlong placement a great deal. I came into the placement at an exciting time (New Model Astra Hatchback and Station Wagon Launch) which has allowed me to two sides of a model cars life cycle – the end of an old launch and the beginning of a new launch.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The Quality Team here at Ellesmere Port are amongst the most genuine, friendly and most supportive people I have met. It’s a great atmosphere to be in and they don’t waste any time in making you feel like part of the team. I also enjoyed having a fellow undergraduate in the same role too, as well as supporting each other I have learnt a great deal from him too.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Every time I needed assistance or wanted a question answered my industrial supervisor and industrial tutor were always on hand to help. The support was always there, from them and from anyone.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I expected the beginning of the placement started quite slow but as time has passed things have picked up respectively. My work rate now is very demanding but not over demanding of me. I can manage my daily tasks.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I’ve been given complete and absolute responsibility. I was assigned the responsibility of the cockpit for both hatchback and station wagon for the D1 and D2. I am the first point contact for Ellesmere Port not only for the cockpit but also for the colour harmonisation of the plant.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed a great deal of Soft/Transferable skills and Automotive Knowledge. However implementation of the course material was fairly moderate and I don’t see a great deal of relevance to my third year.
