The Role
The placement is good, I'd of enjoyed the placement more had I been able to see more of the business rather then confined to my department.
Throughout the year my responsibilities increased, in turn I felt more valued by my colleagues..
Managers/Supervisors are busy people, so it can be hard to schedule anytime to ask for support or guidance. That being said Vauxhall do a 'mentor' scheme however this hasn’t worked out so well as often mentors dent always have the time to meet. Often mentors are in a different area of the business and may not fully understand your requirements..
The start of the placement my work load was very limited, it has since increased by larger amounts and as a result I often stay beyond my working hours.
I found that the final 5 months of my placement the responsibility I had been given had risen greatly, I now manage various projects.
The Company
I can only speak on behalf of the marketing department but it was fantastic! a real positive vibe!
Would improve mentor system and would set up a programme that would allow interns/undergrads the opportunity to talk to various people within the business - maybe shadow certain managers and improve our understanding of all areas of the business (commercial awareness).
Could be more training programmes run etc., but this cost time and money so i can understand why a firm would be wary of doing this..
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The organisation does encourage and allow people to progress through its ranks.
The Culture
Cant fault the social aspect! Plenty of undergrads and lots to do.
Again we are so close to London but the price is relatively low so no complaints.
Not great, but its about the company you keep. There are so many undergrads at Vauxhall so alot going on.
Yes, but not necessarily the type of activities a young 18-25 year old would want to do. Read into that what you will.
