The Role
I enjoyed my placement. The team were great and I felt like I had a great introduction to my job role so settled in really well. The company employs a lot of undergraduate students so the work enviroment is good and you dont feel like your ever on your own with anything. I would recommend this placement to any student as I think it has given me a very good insight to the working enviroment and we get given a lot of responsility which other placements lack.
I felt very valued, I got involved with other projects outside of my role. The other employees dont treat the undergraduates as students which is good because it helps us to integrate faster and also makes the work enviroment better to work in.
My manager supported me all year. Any questions I had he was happy to help with.
I had busy times and quiet times. In finance we have a month end where we have a lot of work to be doing, but mid month was steady away, unless someone in the team was away and then we had to cover.
I was given a lot of responsibility. We had to move money from one account to another and these were millions of pounds. Also we had the responsibility of approving deals.
My skills I have developed will help me to put theory into practice. It will help me to answer the questions from more of an industry point of view which was difficult before I worked.
The Company
The general atmosphere is great. We all get a long really well and have a laugh every now and again. When someones struggling everyones there if they need them and happy to help.
The placement is very well organised. In the start the company has housing packs to see where we could live and we have talks from directors to see the overall aims of each department and how they fit in with the general company goals.
The company spends a lot of time training. We has excel training and presentation training and I believe I have gained confidence because of this and I will be able to take that back with me.
Subsidised Canteen
The employment prospects are not great. Vauxhall dont have a graduate scheme.
The Culture
The social scene was the best part of the placement. Because there are so many of us there is always something socially going on. Also there are certain houses that the undergraduates live together in so its like being at University again.
The cost of living is pretty cheap, however we are close to London so if you go into London all the time, it then becomes expensive.
The nightlife lacked a little but we are close to London. Also St Albans is good for a cheaper night than London.
There are oppertunities such as CSR days or go karting and charity fund raisers
