The Role
Work wise my placement has been valuable- I have had a good amount of responsibility and interesting work. I have had the oppurtunity to go out of the office and learn about the company as a whole and not just the department. Because there is 80+ Undergrads the social aspect is a highlight
My colleagues valued the work I produced and if they needed help would ask for my assistance
My managers would often let me get on with my work but if I did need any help they would be there to ask any questions
As the placement progressed I found myself more and more busy on a daily basis as I have been given more and more responsibilty.
I was given a good amount of responsibility. I would make judgement calls most days when appeals for the Mystery Shop came through. I would also have to produce reports for high level management.
Since being at vauxhall I have developed my Excel skills- (intermediate and advanced training) We were also given Presentation training.
The Company
The atmosphere started off good but due to people in the department leaving it became very quiet.
Overall it was well set up. The handover period was very well organised and gave you the chance to meet all of the undergrads in different social situations.
Vauxhall offered training in Excel. We also had training in presenting. If an employee needed specific training they would happily invest.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Realistically not many. There is no grad scheme available however if there is a job which becomes vacant there is a shortlist of placement students which attend an assessment centre.
The Culture
Because there are 80+ Undergraduates there is plenty to do.
Very cheap to live. I lived in one of the 'nicer houses' and paid £340 a month.
Not many places to go out however, very nice surrounding areas: St Albans, Harpenden to name a few. Also very short distance to London which is a plus.
The Undergraduates would do something most weekends so if you wanted to get involved you could.
