The Role
It was good, taught me a lot about the real world of work.
Very much so. I felt like a member of the team and not just an intern, the whole company welcomes undergraduates.
Lots of support from manager, always there if I had a problem. Had quarterly reviews of our progress and goals etc
It varied, sometimes I was very busy and having to work overtime. Others I had time to spare and was able to keep up to date with my university work,
A lot more than I was expecting. I was dealing with real decisions in the marketing budgets and auditing millions of pounds worth of vehicle invoices. Vauxhall put real trust in their undergraduates.
I was able to develop my organisational, professional and interpersonal skills which will assist when looking for future careers.
The Company
Atmosphere varied between departments, but my department was young and we were always laughing,
Fairly well organised, Vauxhall have been running their placement programme for 10 years now so the plans and schedules are well put in place.
We received excel training, advanced and intermediate, and presentation training, Other online training was available for those who were interested.
Subsidised Canteen
From a graduate perspective, there are few and irregular roles available. There isn't a scheme put in place so it is purely luck if a job vacancy pops up.
The Culture
Very good social scene. As there were 100 undergraduates at Vauxhall, half of them living in Luton, there were regular if not weekly, social events after work.
Relatively cheap in Luton, costs more as you go to London
The nightlife in Luton is okay, few pubs and a club, so most went to nearby St Albans, Watford or London instead.
Yes, there were many sporting activities such as football every week. As well as work related perks such as charity bike rides, racing days, world cup football matches etc
