The Role
I have enjoyed getting an insight into and an experience of a corporate working environment. It was rewarding to be given real responsibility and worthwhile tasks. I also really enjoyed the social aspect of the placement.
Everyone is really welcoming and appreciative of any help you provide them. Rarely will you find a rude or unhelpful colleague.
Everyone is more than happy to help with any questions you might have and is willing to spare their time to answer your questions. They understand that you will not know or understand everything.
I rarely had time where I was struggling to find work to do - colleagues always have work you can help them with. On the other hand, there were some periods when I was arguably too busy, most days I worked longer than my hours.
I was given quite a lot of real responsibility but I also feel like I was left out of other opportunities to get my more involved in other projects.
I believe I have developed skills for working in a professional business environment and for communicating and interacting with colleagues and external contacts. I have also developed a fairly in depth knowledge of my business area.
The Company
It was a mixed bag in my department - a lot of the time it was very quiet but often we would have takeaways etc together.
The placement programme has been running for several years so it is very well established and organised.
I was given quite a lot of training at the start of the year but this died off as the year went on.

With no real graduate programme and very few new hires, it's very rare to be offered a graduate job back at Vauxhall.
The Culture
With over 65 undergrads in Luton, there's plenty of social activities going on and plenty of people who you can get along with. Most weekends there is some social event and there have been regular weekends away and holidays with other undergrads throughout the year.
Houses are fairly cheap in Luton, but then they aren't very nice and usually aren't in good areas. Socialising is cheap... if you want to go out in Luton. If not, it can get more expensive to travel elsewhere.
Almost no nightlife in Luton, the best places to go are St Albans or Watford which are 20/30 mins away.
Plenty of sporting and social opportunities to get involved with, such as football. Also there are regular Vauxhall events such as quizes, bowling etc.
