    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience that I gained from working for a large organisation, gained a wide understanding of the variety of different departments and work loads. You have a real job with real responsibilities, others rely on you and you gain a fantastic experience of working in the 'real' world.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • There is such a friendly, family like atmosphere within the building, everyone is extremely friendly and will welcome you. Within the team I felt very valued as members would often ask me to run reports for them or ask me questions about some work I have done. Creating presentations about the analysis I have conducted is a main part of my job that other members of the department will work off themselves. I have always been thanked for any work I have carried out for others and feel that my work I do for them is appreciated.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager has always been helpful and given me any support with working issues especially at the begining when I was new and unsure of all procedures. The guidance at the begining was very directed and I was sure of what my job involved. My manager has always been open and willing to help with any quiery.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were days in the month which were busier than others, typically the begining of the month was busier due to end of month reports. There are always tasks that have to be carried out each day and emails will be recieved throughout the course of the day with some ad-hoc tasks to carry out. There is a constant flow of work but typically the first two weeks of the month are the busiest.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given my own tasks to do that if I didnt carry out someone else would have had to do. My main responsibility was collecting data, analysing it and putting it into a presentation for a meeting that will be held with various directors towards the end of the month. There are certain tasks I do that others do not have access to and dont have any responsibility to do.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The people and working skills are incredibly worthy and will be taken forward into future careers and I have adapted to the working life. Computer skills such as excel and powerpoint have significantly improved which can be used in both university and future jobs. Confidence and general attiutde has improved which will both assist me in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is light hearted and relaxed at times but can also be serious when needs to be. Everyone has respect for each other and knows when it is a good time to talk to them and when they are busy. If people are on a conference call as a whole the office tends to quiet down. Everyone gets along and can have a laugh with each other whilst remaining professional.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The application process of the placement was well organised from the online application ot the assessment centre. Upon arrival the transmission oculd have been a bit smoother as I feel it would have been beneficial to spend more time with your previous undergraduate than we did. Overall it was organised and there was no errors in the process.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company provides some basic excel and presentation skills when you first start. There is opportunities to take part in some online courses however these are not well published so it is unlikely many would have undertaken them. As a compnay I feel I have developed as a person because of the experiences, in terms of time and investment there was little as to what I could have expected.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is the opportunity to come back as agraduate if the positions are available. There are a number of different departments in which you could work with in as well as various sites in which you could get a job at. I feel there is opportunity to persue a career at Vauxhall in the future in a number of different departments.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a number of different events put on during hand over which is a good chance to mingle with other undergraduates. There is a department christmas meal and there are other department staff nights out which you can attend. Umong the other students there are often nights out in the local area.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted from home so in terms of living I do not know. The socialising aspect is similar to anywhere else with the usual attractions. There is not a wide range of places to go in the local area on a night out but there is often student nights due to living in a student town.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lack of many good clubs and bars, not the best place to go out. However if you are willing to travel a bit further to near by locations there are some slightly better places to go out at a similar price.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is often sporting events on offer such as football tournements on offer that get sent out via internal communications. There is other activities such as quiz nights within the company that you can get involved in. This is on top of department activities that you can get involved in.
