    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was mediocre. Although I was given lots of help when asked, unfortunatly there were issues within the team structure and I experience lots of problems. I did enjoy parts of my plalcement and I did learnt lots aboout myself.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I do feel that I am valued as the work as the work I produce is used across my team and division. I am praised when I complete work certain things which are of a high standard. However, owing to the fast-paced environment I have not tasks that need to be completed daily/weekly which are mandatory and therefore there is not really room for praise.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was dissapointed with the relationship I had with my manager as I did not get to speak with him as much as I would have liked as he is out of the office more than in the office. I was given support when asked for it, although this is to be expected in a fast paced enviornment. I do not have any supervisors but I have recieved guidance from a collegue in my team when asked.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Every single day of my placement has been busy as there is always something to do, e.g. reporting, data analysis and customer queries/issues that need addressing (these are often more complex than anticipated and can even take half a day to resolve). When there are periods where you have more free time, you are able to ask others in your team to be involved in upcoming projects.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given lots of responosbility in my role. Even though it is a placement year, it is a full time job with real responsibilities. Therefore I had deadlines in which I must complete set tasks in as they would be required by higher managment levels. In addition there were also projects/ tasks which would solely be my responsibility,

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt lots of skills over the years which will help me during my last year at university, I was provided with presentation training, excell training and safe driving training. All of which were free of charge and helpful for my current role. Additionally, most of the skills that I have learnt at Vauxhall I would not have learnt at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmoshere is quite relaxed and chatty at work as it is an open plan office. Furthermore within the 'office' environment you do make friends with people in other teams and often can have a chat to break the day up. Additionally, because you sit near people who in departments that are simular/cross over with yours, you can always walk over to their desks to ask questions when you need to. Overall it is very plesant.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall the placement has been set up very well, as there are so many students that are in the same boat as you yet we are all looked after very well. There is an undergratuate HR representative every year takes care of everyones needs, this include holiday entitlment, living arrangements and even if its a problem with your job role.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel that Vauxhall did invest in me because I did attend many training sessions that were paid for and provided by Vauxhall. In addition I have develped skills that I did not have previously, However i have also learnt alot about myself and development my personal skills such as confidence and communication,

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Many undergrads do come back for post-graduate roles, however there is not actually a post graduate scheme. I would not come back to Vauxhall as a post graduate student simply because I do not have a passion for cars. Addiitionally, the lack of a post-graduate scheme is not appealing,

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a two week hadnover which is almost like 'freshers week' at university where you all socialise on nights out, at the casino and for meals. Simularly to university, people do break off into their own groups after a couple of weeks, However i have made friends with a group of people who i do socalise with every week.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The rent is pretty cheap in luton as... its luton! However that is a good things as you have more of your pay to spend/save. Additionally there isnt lots to do in Luton as it is pretty run down, However there is a town centre close by with shops. Additionally, Luton is very close to London via train, perf for nights out!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Terrible. The nightlife in Luton is vertually non-existant, However it is close to London so you can always get on a train for a night out. Additionally there are towns close by such as St Albans which have bars and clubs such as 'Batchwood' which are fairly popular with locals. There are many pubs in Luton that you can go to for a quiet drink.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are oppertunities to be involved with activities outside of work, however for personal reasons i have chose not to get involved apart from joining the local gym. Others have joined local sporting teams and take part in the local charity events which is great!
