    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thought the placement was very eye-opening and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and gain an insight into the working world. I would definitely recommend the scheme to others as I found it very valuable and enjoyed my time.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was lucky enough to be able to work with the same team throughout the internship and so because of this I formed very close relationships with a number of people who will continue to be my friends even though my placement has now finished. There were of course some people who I did not form as close a relationship with, however for the most part I felt like an equally valued member of the team

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My direct line manager and 'buddy' within the scheme were fantastic and a great inspiration. They were always happy and resourced to provide the best help and advice they could and this meant that I felt fully supported throughout my placement.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was given my own role and was expected to complete as any other full-time coworker. As a result I was constantly kept busy and people were comfortable asking me to do tasks and I became confident in completing them.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As I completed my work there I was given my own role which was valued across the team. This meant that I had specific responsibilities which the rest of the team relied on me to complete. I felt that within my project there was the opportunity to stretch yourself if you had the drive to do so.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Over the 8 months I spent there I developed a wide range of skills such as public speaking, my understanding of computers and technology developed and I became more confident with my time management. I have learnt several key skills which will help me in my degree and will mean I can tackle it with more confidence. Definitely one of the best aspects of completing the placement.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • At times the office felt stressed and owing to the nature of the way our project was organised it was at times uncomfortable. However, this was usually abated by the strong team that I was a member of and generally it was a nice atmosphere to work within.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised extremely well and there were always people to ask for help from if needed. I think my experienced was as advertised when I applied and has given me many skills which I am looking forward to using in the future.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As I was on a placement and not a full-time employee, I do no feel that the firm invested in me particularly, however I do think effort was put in to ensure we enjoyed our placement so we were likely to return to the company after we graduate.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects within the organisation look great. It appears that there are several avenues within which one can enter the company and they are open-minded as to the type of degree you do.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there was, my team was very social and were very keen to ensure cohesion and welcome new members. We held socials every 6 weeks which were a great way to get to know team members better. The wider company also organised some events which I was able to attend and these were also a great way to network and socialise.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was working in London and so it was quite an expensive commute into the City every day. I do feel that the company could have subsidised my travel expenses into London as I had to travel down every day. I brought a packed lunch with me every day to save money on food so there were ways to cut down on the cost of living.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I was working in a very social area and my team would often go out for drinks in the evening. As per the previous question I did not really feel that I could afford to do so and as a result I have reasonably limited experience of the Nightlife myself.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company has social sports teams which colleagues can join if they so wish and our team was very social so we often met up after work and organised events. There are plenty of opportunities if you have time to organise some things yourself.
