The Role
The company and staff were very welcoming and you were encouraged to take part and integrate with everyone. After establishing myself and proving my capabilities the jobs I was given escalated and my responsibility increased.
The area that I was placed in relied heavily upon us as placement students to do our job and to do it to a high standard.
Everyone was very accommodating and easy to approach. You were never made to feel foolish for asking a question.
In general the work was pretty solid all day, when the work flow did dip then other work was found until it picked up again. There were always opportunities to do more & different work if you asked.
As stated above, this whole area of the business was reliant on us. If we did our job poorly then that would have an impact on the company's relationship with the client.
Most of the skills I gained proved very valuable for working in an office and within a team. Unfortunately the technical skills I gained weren't of much direct value for my degree.
The Company
Atmosphere was always very upbeat and friendly. Music would play regularly and there were regular social events you were invited to and encouraged to attend.
It felt very solid, training was provided to me upon arrival which lasted a few weeks before being left to do the work. Support was constantly available should I require it.
They have regular 'training' lunches where other members of staff will do a small presentation during lunch to share their knowledge / experiences in their project. There were also external trainers brought in of various areas of expertise that student would attend with the rest of the staff.
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
A fair number of the staff were previously placement students and this seems to be an ongoing trend with students that prove themselves to be valuable employees.
The Culture
There were formal and informal social events arranged by the company and colleagues as well as weekly football games after work
I traveled in to work, most of the socialising was done out of the area apart from the (fairly regular) pub lunches. Cost seemed reasonable.
Not much night life, but evening activities were arranged either in Leicester or surrounding areas.
As stated before, there were regular football games, lunches and social events that were organised to get involved in.
