  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a valuable experience which allowed me to develop professional skills such as analytical and presentation skills.

  • I felt very welcome and an equal part of the team where my input was respected.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There is a mentoring programme in place which is excellent. At the beginning of the placement we are given CAP goals which get reviewed half-way through the placement and again at the end. I worked closely with my line manager and it was a great experience to have such a professional individual guiding and teaching me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload initially seems like a lot but I developed time management and eventually got comfortable with working with data and took on extra tasks to fill my schedule.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was trusted to handle large volumes of important and confidential data and to independently manage tasks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained many employable skills such as communication, Microsoft Excel, planning and organising. I feel it has made me very employable. I have also learnt to use IBM's Cognos software and gained industrial experience as well.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is excellent; it is friendly yet everyone is hardworking and focused to get their daily tasks completed before going home. Everyone is approachable, keen to answer any questions and make time to help me out and sometimes it works the other way and I have other employees ask me to help out with a task.

  • It is very well organised since it a 25 year scheme with the following events: • Open days • Handover period • Director presentations • Social schedule • Site tours • Housing support • Feedback meetings

  • There were the following personal and professional trainings available: • Safe driving workshops • Excel training • Presentation skills training • Department/role specific training • Opportunity to shadow different departments • Graduate application employability workshop

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is no graduate scheme available however the placement year is like a year long interview and if a job is available then you will be invited back to an assessment centre.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were 75 undergraduates plus apprentices so there were many events organised between us throughout the year.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • n/a. I commuted from home every weekday. However other undergrads that I know were paying ~£300/350 a month on rent. It is relatively cheap to live in Luton.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It is close to London, Watford, Milton Keynes, Harpenden and St Albans.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A few of us undergrads made a badminton group, so we would play once a week after work. There were other sports clubs available e.g. football and charity events e.g. London to Paris cycle, as well as a theatre trip to Milton Keynes to watch Fame.
