    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • In my internship I was given the opportunity to explore a variety of functions through my project. As I was part of a project where every incorrect product information on the system had to be acknowledged and maintained, I worked close with the Marketing and the Sales teams, as well as people from Logistics and the Supply Chain. It was great experience and I gained a great understanding of how the business works. At times my project felt a bit tedious but when I fed that through the business they gave me an additional Marketing project which i really enjoyed.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • That was the best thing in my internship by far! I was impressed with how personable Mars is and how everyone is there to give you some of their time to help you/support you and just get to know you. I had the chance to go up to the General Manager and he was more than happy to sit down with me for 30 mins and have a chat! Very impressed!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a line manager who was there for me anytime i felt like a struggle, but even in not these times, we organised meetings every 3 weeks to see how i am getting on with my project and my development. I addition, the person i was working with was such great help, explaining everything whenever i felt i was having trouble and being there for me every day!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy at the beginning when i was given my project and i was trying to see what i need to do for it. Closer to the end of the internship i didnt feel i was very busy but i mentioned that to my line manager and they noted it down so i ended up doing a project with the marketing team for the final month of my internship - which was great insight into the world of Marketing and it consequently helped me during my degree.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From day 1 they gave me a project of great responsibility - and also made me be really pro-active going and speaking to a lot of people from within the university. in the end i managed to correct the information of a lot of product codes, leading to an improvement in the overall system which consequently could improve when dealing with suppliers and retailers.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As planning was one of my development areas, i felt that it was greatly improved throughout the internship. My project was all around how i am going to plan through it and how i will implement it. This had helped me massively in projects that I am doing now and during my course, especially with my dissertation

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a very friendly environment and it felt like whenever i need some support/help, people were there to give it to me. The atmosphere in the office is what has convinced me that i want to do the grad scheme with mars.! They say people is an important element and it really is!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall internship was organised by a graduate of the MMDP, with help from the Talent Manager of the UK. It was well organised and everyone in the business was informed about the interns, their roles and how they can help us. The reason why it is 8 and not a 10 is that communication could have been made sooner regarding the placements and all the small details

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Again, as i mentioned before, support and development was a great thing within the company and one of the things that really attracts me.! Everyone has a personal development plan where they focus on two development areas that we work through to improve. It is great!
