The Role
Absolutely brilliant year, my favourite year of university so far. Great people within the company and great undergraduate community. A huge benefit of the placement was the amount of undergrads that Vauxhall take on, the company really supported our development and there was a great social side. The job was also really interesting, a lot of exciting opportunities - got to meet the England team too which was a bonus!
Extremely valued, often asked for my opinion on new ideas and creative - my contribution was recognised. The team respected my position within the team, felt equal to the full time staff there and was included in big decisions. Everyone in the company was friendly and welcoming, my team was like a family.
Constant support and guidance whenever needed. If I was unsure of anything I could approach my manager or other colleagues within my team. We had reviews throughout the year to monitor my progress and development to ensure I could fulfil my goals and had the support to do so. Was given opportunities to explore other areas of the business which my manager supported.
Always had a variety of tasks to do, so was never bored, I was also given exciting projects to work on. There also wasn't too much work so I felt like my workload was out of control, if there were times when I had a lot of tasks on, for example, requests from customers on top of my other tasks, the team would help share the workload. Weekly team meetings ensured I had a good workload balance.
Lots of responsibility so I felt really valued. I was given huge projects to work on, including managing elements of events, producing a tender presentation, liaising with customers including Managing Directors, and agencies. I had my own role in the team, so certain things would not have happened if I had not produced them. I also implemented new processes which were taken on board within the department.
I have matured so much as a person and also become more confident. My communication and presenting skills have developed which I have been able to use in my final year at university. I have also become more organised and self-disciplined, which is helping me manage my university workload much better.
The Company
Great atmosphere in the office, a nice place to work. Still able to have a laugh! Open plan office which was nice and sociable.
Great from the communication from the Recruitment Team from start to finish. Well-established scheme which you can tell. Before induction, you are put in contact with other undergrads and given a housing booklet which a range of accommodation you can choose from to live with the other undergrads. There is then a formal induction and housing day which makes moving away and finding a house a lot easier! A structured handover period with the current and new undergrads, which includes social activities. Regular reviews throughout the year to monitor progress and ensure you are getting the most out of your year.
All undergrads were given presentation skills training, excel training and safer driver training as well as other training if the role required it. There were also opportunities to shadow other areas and roles within the business which was interesting and useful. There is also a programme where you set objectives at the start of the year and these are reviewed mid-year and at the end of the year. Undergraduates are also given a mentor for the year.

I would definitely consider returning to Vauxhall if there was an opportunity available.
The Culture
Excellent, over 60 undergraduates based in Luton - we all lived together in houses and socialised together. Definitely one of the best things about the placement scheme! Did lots of activities together in and outside of work.
I was based in Luton - cheap accommodation, approx. £200-350pppm in rent. Great transport links to London - cheap trains, and also 5 minutes from Luton airport! Average prices for cinema, restaurants etc.
Luton has a few bars and a club (cheap night out), but close to London if you want a really good night out!
Yes, undergrads did a lot of activities together, there was also gym membership discount, a football league for the boys, running clubs etc. Vauxhall quiz nights too.
