The Role
It was an amazing experience that I was glad to do with Dstl, not only was the work interesting but my colleagues were amazing. The work was challenging and kept me busy.
When working at Dstl, I felt part of the community even though I was only a student. My work was valued, and at the same time. They were there if and when I needed help.
I was given a lot of independence when it came to my work, but at the same time there was a brilliant support network that involved my manager and colleagues.
It would vary, but most of the time I was kept busy enough to be working for the whole day and fit in a lunch break! I was quite responsible with my on time, and my work load. But if I had no work, it was very easy to get more.
I was given a lot of responsibility to control my own time, and what I did during the work day.
I now realise what working life is like, and what sort of career I want in the future, and how my degree is going to assist me to getting that career I want.
The Company
Good working atmosphere, was quiet when it needed to be but also frequent discussions occurred about work. Plus, it was very friendly.
Once I started it was absolutely fine, however the period before I started work, my start date was given to me very late. And because I didn't have an SC it meant that I sat in reception for 4 hours waiting for someone to pick me up.
They invested a certain amount of training to me, but the pricier aspects of training (such as programming) wasn't necessary in the job I was undertaking so wasn't given to me. Otherwise, I was given everything I needed.
Flexi Time
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Hugely appealing to do a graduate scheme programme with the company, to increase experience.
The Culture
Among students we had a very good social scene in and out of work. With other colleagues who weren't students, socialising within work went well, but outside of work only happened occasionally.
Commuted from home (didn't move out).
Absolutely fine, there was always somewhere to go around the area.
Lot of sporting activities and pub quizzes and trips were set up which where really easy to take part in.
