    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was insightful and enjoyable experience to be able to get a look at the wide variety of work that was being done and to get a chance to experience a few of the areas that interested me most when i first applied. I was also offered opportunities that were not initially advertised and yet improved the experience and made me appreciate even more the impact the company has.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues valued me a great deal, enough so that they found work which i was able to do and which contributed to ongoing projects. they gave me guidance on how to do the tasks which i was given, even if they were not directly obliged to , and they had patience while I learned how their work environment worked

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I found it easy to speak to my management, who talked to me in order to get a good idea of what i would be good at, and then went on to guide me through my work and offer other tasks and activities which they thought I would like to do.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I found that the amount of work was directly related to the projects being done at the time, and the time of year in which i did the internship. It seemed that most projects had allocated or used up most of their budgets, and thus the amount of work which I could book to was mot always enough to keep me busy. This did not infringe on my opportunity to learn however, as I found myself shadowing others as they worked on their project when I myself had nothing more presently to do

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility; not so much that I felt overwhelmed, but just enough to make me feel as though I was making a difference whilst I was there. I was able to give a few presentations on research I had done and authentically contributed to the progress of work

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I definitely learned a great deal whilst working that I had not been taught on my course, but would none the less become useful further on in my studies. The training I received put me in good stead for when or if I wanted to apply to other jobs, both related to my chosen field and not

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general office was the best I have yet to see. It was very relaxed, and fostered an atmosphere where questions could be asked without a feeling of judgement. People talked to each other whilst the worked, asking questions about a wide variety of subjects. it was an atmosphere which promoted a work ethic not through fear but through acceptance and thereby confidence.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship had staff dedicated to it which meant that there was a clear route to go down if there were any queries or problems that needed resolving to do with the internship. It was well designed so that everyone got an opportunity to have a go at the roles they wanted to try out, provided they gave enough notice.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The put aside numerous days and working hours in order to all me to complete the mandatory training, and then further trials training that would allow me to work at affiliated sites and get a wider experience. This was all paid for and I was not forced to choose this training over that, I could do as much as I wanted.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company offers a comprehensive scheme for people who want to come back for another summer internship or alternatively apply for a graduate role. This includes other opportunities such as bursaries. Furthermore the pay is ideal for students who can then earn money during the summer to support themselves financially during the academic year and be in a better position to return, provided there are still positions available.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were many interns of similar age, and there were events put on within the site that allowed interns to mingle with other interns and graduates, and allow them to network and find out more about the company. Individual groups would have their own social events, i.e meeting for breakfast before work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was high for the area where the place of work was located; I had the advantage of being close enough that I could live at home with my parents during the internship. There were opportunities outside of of work to do things with other interns and colleagues, such as pub quizzes and football matches.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area I worked in was almost non existent; There were a few pubs and restaurants in the nearby town but I would have to travel some distance by train in order reach a place with nightclubs and bars. However I did not find this to be a problem.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were opportunities through the gym that was on site to do classes of various descriptions, And there were historical tours organised to give people an insight into the history of work that had been done on site. more events were organised through the local employee engagement group to travel to local places of interest and do more tours or some other activity such as minigolf
