About You
I really enjoyed Teach First - Insight, it was an incredible experience and one that has helped me develop skills that I will need in my future career as a teacher.
Whilst in school I felt incredibly valued, the maths department really made me feel part of the 'team'.
The first week of Insight was teacher training which involved a lot of support and guidance from Teach First ambassadors. During the second week, the head of maths at my placement school was incredibly supportive.
As someone who has wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember, the skills I developed during Insight will be invaluable for my future career.
The Company
The first week was well planned and we were given a thorough timetable. I didn't have much information about the lesson I would be teaching during the second week until I got to the school but that didn't have much of an affect on me.
Everyone on Insight shared a common cause and thus everyone got along. Lasting friendships were made instantly.
The first week was all training for when we went into schools and information about opportunities available to us after finishing the LDP.
The week we spent in school gave us a good insight into what the LDP would be like as we had to plan and deliver our own lesson
The first day of the Insight Programme was a welcome to Teach First and talks about the Teach First values to ensure we had a true understanding.
I already knew I wanted to be a teacher but the Insight Programme made me confident that Teach First was the route I wanted to go down
Everything Else
We were paid although a lot of the money went on travel expenses and food costs
Ambassadors came to talk to us throughout the first week and on the final day many ambassadors showed up to watch our presentations and were then available for networking
It was useful to talk to ambassadors who had been in the same situation as us and had experienced the LDP
We heard a lot about the sorts of things ambassadors became involved in after finishing the LDP but there was no mention of activities to get involved in alongside the LDP
I would 100% recommend the Insight Programme to anyone considering becoming a teacher or anyone who wants to develop their leadership skills and experience a fantastic opportunity
