    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work was sometimes very engaging and tricky. Other times it could be quite dull (though not as often), but I suppose the same is true for most jobs.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt welcomed by everyone and my contributions were appreciated.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The managers were often too busy to contact by email of phone, but were helpful when available. Supervisors ipso facto tend to work more closely with you and were very friendly and communicative and helpful.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • When the work is busy it is very busy. Down time can be painfully dull. As an intern the work you are given depends on the work available in your department. Sometimes there is little 'important' work to do so you end up doing the odd menial job here and there.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility in my two 6-month projects. Deadlines were expected to be met.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Cannot comment yet as I haven't resumed my degree course yet but I imagine that they helped a lot.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone is friendly and most often up for a chat whether its business related or not.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work of the intern entirely depends on the work available in the department s/he ends up at, therefore the experience differs wildly. Generally speaking the intern is required to participate in some kind of introductory training before getting involved in any projects but this was not always the case.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I never felt the work I did was unequal to that done by full time employees. In my internship I received a lot of training before getting involved in any big project so I would say the company invested heavily in me and my work.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Rolls-Royce is a great company to work for.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, employees would often socialize outside of work and during work hours (coffee breaks).

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Derby is a relatively cheap city to live in.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Derby has an appalling nightlife. Thankfully it's not to far from cities with much more to offer (Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham etc). Some employees resented the Derby nightlife so much they spent most weekends in London.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A few most of them sport related.

    4/5
