    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Vauxhall, had many opportunities throughout the year to gain a broad industrial experience including a major product launch.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Worked within a small team during a major product launch phase, therefore the placement enabled me to have a strong contribution to the team. My colleagues entrusted me with a wide variety of tasks, even sending me as a sole representative of the brand team to an event.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was fantastic, he ensured I took advantage of every opportunity the placement year could offer me, including the chance to lead a community project. In addition, he has kept his door open for future contact in regards to university studies and job opportunities.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have been very fortunate in that my placement year fell at the start of a major product launch for the company, therefore I was always busy, especially post Christmas. In the first 6 months Vauxhall don't expect too much from you but are eager for you to show what you can do.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • For an undergraduate I was perhaps given more responsibility than my job title allowed post Christmas. However, this again was most likely due to the fact we were in an extremely busy phase with the product launch and I had a strong working relationship with my department.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Couldn't have asked for anything more, the placement year far exceeded my initial expectations and has given me a strong career platform to build upon. In regards to my university studies I do not feel it will directly assist my university studies however, I feel my placement year has made me more career driven, therefore pushing me to do better in my final academic year at university.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was just right for me personally, my team was work focused but enjoyed a laugh and joke, and the neighboring departments were chatty yet also focused.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Can't really find fault with the placement year; really enjoyed my job role and I was lucky enough to also become a project leader of the company's community project.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the start of my placement I went on a couple of one day courses to learn how to use some of the software I would be using throughout the year. Apart from that everything I learned was on the job - I was very fortunate to have a great department that were always patient and willing to answer any questions I may have had.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Hard to comment at this stage as I have only just left the placement, although I have been told by multiple members of staff that I would be welcomed back and to keep in touch for future job opportunities. I do not believe many graduates are taken on each year though - I would presume it is dependent on job availability...

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Fantastic social life, when joining the company we had a 2-week handover period which had multiple nights out with the current undergraduates and the new undergraduates. Throughout the year the social life was great too as there were over 100 undergraduates at Vauxhall so it's like you haven't left university in regards to the social scene.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Lived in a house with 3 other undergraduates, our landlord was actually a work colleague and his prices were very fair in my opinion. Nights out were cheap too!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's the same as anywhere else; it's the people your'e with that make your night! it also helps that the drinks were cheap...

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 7-a-side football and other sports activities going on

    3/5
