  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Excellent placement. Very skilled co-workers and was given freedom to explore research and support when needed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • A lot of people take their annual leave in August so I was stuck finding things to keep myself busy for about a week until they came back

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Good co-workers

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work itself was well defined, but assistance was neither offered nor provided for temporary accommodation by HR. I was luck find a room in the next town before I started, as I would not have been able to take position otherwise

  • Trained in science/theory of synchtrons, and in relevant computer packages

  • Subsidised Canteen

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Diamond is dependent on STFC funding, and as civil servants are very affected by the budget deficit.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Only met one other placement student in passing. It is a very big compound and didn't really run into anyone.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Around oxford, so ok

  • Didn't go out, so no idea!

  • a fair few football and other sports teams always wanting students to join in.
