    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • This is an absolutely fantastic firm. I cannot emphasise enough how lovely the people are and how exciting the prospect of working at the firm is now having completed three weeks there. I was given a diverse range of work to complete, as well as the opportunity to meet clients and sit in on conference calls and client meetings. The other students on the scheme and the trainee buddies were equally lovely, a great three weeks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very welcomed by all the individuals I encountered in every department I sat in, as well as by the Grad recruitment team who are just the nicest people. A lot of firms talk about an 'open-door' policy, many of whom do not deliver this. At Hogan Lovells, I experienced an honest, supportive and open atmosphere throughout my three weeks.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I never once felt as though I was out of my depth or unable to ask for help with any of the tasks set. All of my supervisors, though of varying degrees of busy, found the time to guide and support me when required. The trainees were equally happy to help on every floor I interned on.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I hope to pursue a career in commercial law so this has undoubtedly been the best insight into a commercial law firm I could have asked for. It really has affirmed my interest in this career pathway, and I look forward to implementing some of the skills developed throughout the scheme (in both my seats and the various workshops) in the near future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • From day to day work to evening social events, I almost always had something to do and I always knew what was going on. The scheme was incredibly well organised, all thanks to the Grad recruitment team who communicated flawlessly.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The scheme was excellent. I cannot emphasise more the benefits of completing a vacation scheme at Hogan Lovells if you are looking to learn more about an International commercial law firm in a supportive and helpful environment.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm held various workshops in negotiation and advocacy skills for example, which were really helpful and gave us the opportunity to ask senior members of the firm questions about their personal experiences.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think the scheme gave me as good an insight into the firm as I could possibly expect. The Supervisors I worked closely with were very welcoming and offered a lot of information as to their personal experiences at the firm, and the benefits and negatives of the job.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I feel as though I gained a really good feel for the firm. They are genuinely very approachable people, and what has overwhelmingly been proved is that success and approachability need not be mutually exclusive.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • 5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid a sufficient amount of money to cover my living and travel expenses.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were several social events organised throughout the scheme (including dinner at The Ivy!) which gave us ample opportunity to meet some of the members of the firm.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Really fun! I enjoyed them all.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We were told about the volunteering and Pro Bono opportunities the firm is keen its employees take part in, as well as the sporting and musical opportunities that exist for all firm members.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • This was a completely invaluable experience. Take the chance with both hands! Write a stellar application form and be genuine at interview- they really do care about you as a person and your motivation for the role.
