    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my year long placement at Vauxhall. Vauxhall has given me the opportunity to develop professionally as well as allowing me to meet some great people throughout the year.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were great. As the undergraduate scheme has been running for over 25 years, they understand the undergrads very well, giving us time and space to develop. They also helped me make the most out of placement year, getting me involved in different projects and helping me, when I was stuck.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever I required help, someone in the team will always help me as soon as they can. If they can't, they will point me in the direction of the employee who I need help from. Also, if I was unsure on how to approach a task, they will go through the steps on how to achieve the final result and make sure I understand before I begin the task.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Being in Finance, different parts of the month are busier than others. As I began to settle in my job role, I was able to take on more work around my quieter periods and manage it alongside my busy periods. If I did finish my work, my colleagues were able to give me more work which does make the day go quicker.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of responsibility, in both Car Plan and Rental. When there were queries in the Car Plan aspect, I dealt with them directly. With Rental, I was able to process dispensations, having to only ask my manager and the Finance Director for approval based on the value of the dispensation.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During placement, we were given Excel Training, health and safety course, presentation training, Drive Safe course and more. Also, we were always given a briefing before a Community Project event on how to conduct ourselves at the school and other useful information.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Comfortable. Everyone was easygoing and helped you when I was stuck. There was always banter with my colleagues as well.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was organised very well. All the undergraduates had a mentor who you could speak to regarding any problems or anything you wanted to do througout your placement year. Also, you were able to approach your HR representative if you wanted to shadow another department or help you organise it.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have been given Excel training, presentation training, Drive Safe course, interview skills, shadowing other departments, community project and what to expect for graduate application process.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is a possibility of an invitation back for an interview. However, this depends on the availability for a graduate job role within the Finance department.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As there are over 80 undergraduates based in Luton, there was always something on.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was pretty cheap. It's close to Harpenden, St Albans and Milton Keynes as well.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There's only Liquid in Luton. But, there's tonnes of pubs that open till late.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was able to partake in the Sleep Out and The Mountain Trek Challenge to raise money for charity. Vauxhall gave me an opportunity to do things that I wouldn't have considered normally and also allowed me to push myself.

    5/5
