The Role
I have really enjoyed my work placement this year at Vauxhall. Everyone is very welcoming and make you feel part of the team from day 1.
My colleagues were very friendly and made me feel part of the family straight away. There is a great sense of team spirit in my department and days/evenings out are organised throughout the year.
My manager was very supportive and was always there for me if i needed help with anything or needed advice on something.
My workload was fairly light at the beginning, but my responsibilities changed mid way through the year, so in the second half i was kept busy- but not too much that i could not cope.
I was trusted with a lot of responsibility, which made me feel like a valued member of the team and taught me a lot about my job role.
Very valuable transferable skills learned which will help both in final year and in jobs after university.
The Company
There is a great sense of fun and banter in my office, which helps break up the day and means there's never a dull day at work!
The placement scheme at Vauxhall has been running for 25 years so it is well structured.
We have been given presentation training, excel training and also department specific training to aid you in your job role.

Vauxhall do not have a graduate scheme, so there is not much chance of employment after your placement.
The Culture
There are almost 100 undergrads at Vauxhall, most of which based at the head quarters, so many nights out are always planned and it is just like being at university with lots of people your own age around.
It is a university town, but housing costs not as cheap as it could be- probably becasue of the proximity to London.
There is one club, and a couple of pubs. Not great for nightlife, but you can travel out of Luton to Harpenden, St Albans or even London to go out. There is a good train link for this.
There is a gym that is associated with Vauxhall that many of the undergraduates go to and there are football teams set up by undergrads and apprentices. But not many things in the area.
