    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • I found my placement year thoroughly enjoyable. I was given real responsibility in my role from day one and this has grown since then. I have yet to come across anyone in the company who hasn't offered to help and I have been lucky in that I have been placed with a great team.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • I have felt extremely valued in my role. Feedback that I have received from my work colleagues has shown me where my strengths lie and what areas I need to improve on.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • My manager has always given me guidance should I need it. From the simple questions related to my role to where I and how I should progress my career.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • I have never been bored in my role. During quiet periods, I can complete online training or shadow other people in the company. There has been plenty of opportunities to try something new, outside of my role.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • As mentioned earlier, from day one I have been given lots of responsibility in my role. The more I have settled in to my role and felt comfortable in what I am doing the more responsibility I have been given. What I have found particularly great about this placement is that, although you jump straight in to the deep end, your managers make sure they only give you want you are comfortable with.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • My year in industry has made me come away with a new work ethic and I will definitely be taking this back to university with me. I have also had the opportunity to build on my Microsoft Excel skills, this also being a skill I will take back to University.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • My office was on the South Bank. Being in the center of London was amazing in itself but there was always something going on the office and with 60 odd other placement students working there you were never bored.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • I received a great handover and am currently preparing a handover document for the person who takes over my role. This is to ensure I cover everything that my replacement will need to know before I leave.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • On top of the countless online courses that you can enrol yourself on throughout the year, I was fortunate enough to attend 2 professional 'presenting' training courses with the Graduates, paid for by the company. The skills and lessons I have learnt from this are far-reaching and I will definitely be taking these skills back to University with me.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Great social scene. Especially being placed in the centre of London, there is always a pub around the corner!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • London living is very expensive! I was fortunate enough that I could live at home and have a short commute in to London. Although train fares were too, very expensive, this saved me a lot of money!

    • Although expensive, London is a great place to socialise and go out.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • There are sports teams outside of work that you can get involved in as well as plenty of Giveback activities outside of your role.
