    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Vauxhall give you a wealth of opporunities to get involved in and I can honestly say I've enjoyed my time here.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the very first day, my department were approachable and friendly. We've gone out for meals together and even had a team building day. It is a positive atmosphere to work in and there's always a laugh a minute. You are not an 'undergrad', you are a member of the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager has been extremley supportive and is a the type of role model you can look up to. She is an expert in her field and constantly strives for you to do better as well as genuinely wanting the best for you development. She has guided me along my placement journey and she helps you make the most of placement. I feel that I can talk to my manager about anything whether it is work related issues or even about my next holiday.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I've never had a quiet day as there is always something to do. You are busy in a good way and the days go by extremley quickly because of it.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I wasn't expecting the amount of responsibility given to you but Vauxhall. All the placement roles are actual job roles and if you take the undergrad away, you would need to hire someone to fill their space. You are therefore given a great deal of responsibility, for example, I have written leadership messages on the behalf of board directors. It is a democratic place to work and you can voice your opinion and it is actually valid.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My communication skills both verbal and written have improved a great deal. In my role I write communications on a daily basis as well as articles. I therefore feel more confident with my writing style. You are also given the opportunity to develop your presentation skills. I feel as though a degree teaches you content in your chosen discipline but a placement teaches you skills for the workplace. I therefore feel that both university and placement combined put you in a good position for post uni.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A good friendly atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Well organised.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • You get opportunity to attend workshops in areas such as EXCEL.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The organisation is great however personally, I want to pursue a career which is more political. I would recommend the automotive industry to anyone though.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are a lot of undergraduates on placement so you are bound to find somebody you get along with.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • My rent including bills was £360 a month so cost of living in low. In terms of socialising, it is nice to pop to London on the weekends which is around £6 return (with a railcard).

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is not the best but you have lovely places such as Harpenden, St Albans and MK nearby to make up for it.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • You find the oppornutities yourself such as gym. There is also a ladies running club and a beautician who comes on site.
