    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Friendly atmosphere and plenty of guidance was provided when needed from multiple colleagues.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Despite being a student I was very involved in project work and updates.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Regular reviews of what I'd been doing followed by planning ahead were in place.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As far as the job went the volume of work was good. However I felt too busy and stressed at times due to work set by university (although my supervisor gave me time during work hours to complete uni work).

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My project was my own and I was responsible for a lot of the work done for it.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Chemistry related skills perhaps not so much depending what career I persue. But skills like presentation (both written and oral), organisation, time management etc. will be very valuable in any job.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly, talkative atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My management was excellent. HR were OK and helped me out with a few things but there was initial confusion through no fault of my own before the placement with respect to my start date.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot of my supervisor's time was invested in my training and development. There are also courses the company provide for safety aspects which are compulsory and optional ones at the discretion of manangers.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Two colleagues I socialise with on quite a regular basis and also play football with people from the building as well as the odd drink with colleagues for things like leaving dos etc.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Manchester - weekend prices especially can be very steep for socialising, but cheap places are about. Cost of living isn't bad though despite living in the centre. The area I work in is ~3 miles north of the centre so not sure how cheap this area is.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Big city so always something going on.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Football with people from the building and again a big city. Tried muay thai, joined a gym etc.
