    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Although it provided many responsibilities and opportunities to learn, I wouldn't say I enjoyed it due to the monotony of my role

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They know that I am an important asset to the team. However, some people (more like clients) seem to think of you less as you are only on an internship.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The method used was to walk me through processes so I can get a better understanding. However, when it was clear I had no idea what was going on, I was still expected to find my own way, which I believed to be counter-productive.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Sometimes very busy, sometimes nothing to do. Usually in the middle of a quarter is where I have the least work to do.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of the reports were made for IMT (group of countries) leaders, so they need to be accurate and easy to read.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Mainly excel based, the rest of the skills I required/developed are areas like simple maths, analytical skills etc.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • some general chatting, but most people were moving jobs, so the office got emptier.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The team behind the Internship scheme does a very good job, and always asks for the feedback of the students on how to improve it.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had access to all training that's available to everyone who works at IBM

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Working from home

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are very few financial roles in their graduate scheme. They hire more people on placement than they do for graduates

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • People regularly went out. There appeared to be specific groups of social circles (related to when they started working)

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Costs seem to be relatively low, plenty of places to go out, many offer student pricing

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • A lot of clubs, some have student nights during the week (if you can deal with a hangover the next day). Maximum entry fee for a club is £6

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is a "Giveback" community, which enables people to do volunteer work.

    4/5
