The Role
There were some difficulties but overall it was a very positive experience.
People from all over the company were very welcoming and a pleasure to be around.
They were very understand of it being your first time in industry and worked around that by offering help and encouraging learning around the company.
For the most part the workload was about right. There were times either working to a deadline where there was probably a little too much and with a lack of projects where there was not enough but these situations were rare.
I was trusted to make my own decisions on my projects as well as other choices within the company.
The skills I learnt have already been useful in my final year project and will be even more useful when working in the field.
The Company
Overall I felt the atmosphere was positive. The staff were all very nice but there is still an importance in it being a place of work.
The company have used placement students for a long time so understand what to expect from the students and how to utilise their skills.
I felt free and encouraged that improving myself and my work was important to the company and I could spend time achieving this when time was not tight.
Company Parties/Events
I did not talk directly with the company but feel my chances would be improved after the placement.
The Culture
The company is fairly small and only look to take on a few placement students at a time so it is completely dependent how you get along with one other student.
Overall the area is quite cheap, I didn't have too many difficulties I an flat to myself with the help of a student loan. I benefited by being turning 21 very early in the placement which gave me a minimum wage rise, budgeting would have been harder without this.
There is not much of a nightlife in Littlehampton at all, Chichester is an improvement but still not great. While a bit long winded their are good train links to Portsmouth or London.
There are things to do in the area depending on your interests as well as during my placement company football.
