    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was varied, with wide exposure to all departments in Lloyd's and in the London Market. I was given real projects, with sole commitment and so I had a lot of responsibility from day one.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got on extremely well with my whole department; I was always invited to drinks, industry events and out of work social occasions. I have since kept in touch with them all.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly one-to-ones with my manager, discussing my targets and setting new ones. I was fully trained in-house by my colleagues, and never left to do work if I was unsure of it. There was always someone to chat to if you were unsure of anything.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to having such great support I was always given the perfect balance of tasks. Personally I like to take on a larger amount to keep me motivated, and I was always offered the opportunity to take on more if I wanted.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Once trained, I was fully integrated into the team and conducted all daily tasks that they did. I had two projects which I took sole responsibility for, which was overseen by my manager in my weekly one-to-ones. I didn't expect to get so much responsibility from the get go but it was fantastic.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was fully trained, and feel I could go back to my department tomorrow and pick up from where I left it. We received extensive training of the Lloyd's insurance industry, of the London Market and of professional approaches to work and this has definitely helped me focus in my final year studies. Learning how to adapt from student to professional in a working environment will undoubtedly benefit me for the beginning, and rest, of my career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office was fun and lively, but with a great balance where we all still got our work done to the highest standards. Exactly what you'd want from a team environment.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I didn't once not know what was expected of me, and having a 'buddy' mentor was fantastic in terms of settling any queries or helping you through work issues etc.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had extensive training in our first week which focused on the insurance industry, Lloyd's itself - including a building tour -, the London Market and personal professional training on how to adapt from student to professional.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • After my appraisal, I was fortunate enough to be offered a graduate scheme place to start with them next year, subject to my attaining a 2:1 minimum.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was fantastic, couldn't complain at all. My fellow interns were all really sociable and we went out most evenings!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted to London, but drinks prices in bars are pricey - but that's what you expect in the city. The good wage counters the price you pay.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • So many bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs - far better than I anticipated the City to be like.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • N/A

    3/5
