    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a fantastic time, met some fantastic people and was given some great advice, both in a work and socially from people who i work with. This was a throughly worthwhile experience that has set me up for my career to come. I enjoyed it that much that i am still working part time now whilst back at university completing my final year.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Extremely so, whatever projects or responsibility i wanted to take on i could. This was then backed up through showing appreciation for my efforts.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The Asda Placement scheme iin Asda Home Office is very much focused on you making things happen. They encourage you to take the first step and even make mistakes to learn from. However everyone is very supportive and open to given people advice, form my experience this applies to all levels of management, right up to Board level. However again, it is down to you to make the first move and approach that person.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days extremely business, but this is what challenged me and enabled to me to keep developing. The one thing worth pointing out is that workload which i couldn't manage was never put on me and even more importantly i was given time out and encouraged to reflect on what i had learnt, where i needed to develop and how they could give me the responsibility or projects to help me achieve this development.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Within 6 months i was presenting to Operation Directors covering regions such as Scotland or the South or England. I also ended Project Managing a team of 6 people and still do this a couple of days a week whilst i am back at University.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Massively - the placement has developed many transferable skills which i can take into most careers. I intend to stay within the industry and therefore this placement have been invaluable in motivating and inspiring me to achieve what i want to. A clear career direction and plan has been set for me through networking internally within the businesses.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Serious when it was needed to be but always an undertone of having fun. Everyone was extremely approachable and looking to help.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • This was left to my Line Manager to organise who planned out my training and once this was complete gave me free responsibility to get on with the role as anyone would who i not necessary on a work placement.

  • Extremely so, i always felt like they wanted me to return as a Graduate. Again though it is up to you to make the move and have personal development conversations. I did this regularly with my Line Manager up to Commercial Director level.
