The Role
I found most of the placement interesting, especially the client contact. I also found the training that this service gives you at the beginning of the placement invaluable.
EIS is a very friendly and exciting place to work. The disadvantage would be being the fact that there are quite a lot of people working there so it is sometimes difficult to build a rapport so quickly and within a 9 month time frame.
I was regularly supervised by the Clinical Psychologist and i also had the advantage of asking the Assistant Psyhchologists for help if i needed it.
There were some boring days were there wasnt much for me to do but otherwise it was fine.
I had some responsibility as i helped clients with their social anxiety on a one-to-one basis under the supervision of the Clinical Psychologist.
This placement was good as it combines clinical work with research and you will need experience in both if you want to go into Clinical Psychology.
The Company
At times the atmosphere was quite dull in that the particular team that i worked in was generally a quiet team. But this suited me fine as i am a quiet person.
The EIS is a great placement as it has been taking on students from Aston University for years and, thus, knows exactly what placement students want and need out of their placements.
I found most of the placement interesting, especially the client contact. I also found the training that this service gives you at the beginning of the placement invaluable. I helped with literature search on Recovery Styles of people with psychosis. In order to do this I attended the Literature Search training.
At the end of my placement my Supervisor told me that i would get a great CV from him in the future when i need one he also said that i could email him any time after my placement if i have any questions about my future career. I also recieved a nice card from the Research Coordinator who stated that i could contact her after my degree has finished and i took this to be a positive sign.
The Culture
This organisation took on 8 students in total and the training at the begining of the placement we were all togethor. This means that you never feel alone there because there are other students around
Not applicable as i travelled from home
The team had several night outs and had some leaver dinners for those people who were leaving.
