    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had many varied projects so that was enjoyable, the but the student base in my location was small and there weren't many people in my office so sometimes I felt a bit abandoned.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued and integral part of the team. Since the start I was involved in important projects so that was great.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I got help when needed/ asked for it. However nobody held my hand, which meant that I was driving the relationship with my manager, i.e. had to speak up when help was needed.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy. I was supporting my team, plus had many projects on top of that. You can easily get involved in various things and opportunities are endless.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was doing important jobs / HR projects for my team, and also led a few major projects and events. As long as you are comfortable with doing something, and looking for responsibilities, you are going to get them.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The placement was great in terms of improving my confidence and assertiveness. I developed leadership, IT, communication, presentation, time management and analytical skills which will be a great asset not only at university but later on, when applying for graduate jobs.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was ok when people were there, but usually at least half of the team were travelling... so it was rather quiet.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything, starting from the induction to the final review was organised to the smallest detail, e.g. training sessions etc

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was allowed to take as many free online courses as I wanted - I was driving my development. I was also able work shadow which was a great way to learn on the job.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Area that I'm interested in is not run as part of graduate scheme by IBM, however there are other interesting roles, like Consultancy. The Foundation programme at IBM is one of the best.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was in a small location so student base was small, plus there weren't many people in my office.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • it was ok, like everywhere else. I didn't have to relocate so it didn't affect me.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Most of students were living in a big city, 40min away from the IBM location. The nightlife as good.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • You could get involved in volunteering and give back activities, it's really up to you. Opportunities are there, you just need to decide if you want to get involved.

    4/5
