    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my 12 month placement with Hyundai Motor UK (HMUK), within the role of Commercial Fleet Sales Analyst. Although not always easy, I feel as though I came out of the whole experience with a much greater understanding of not only the Automotive Industry - but also of the working environment as a whole.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was treated like any other member of the team, from my colleagues within the Fleet Dept to the CEO & President of HMUK. Everyone treats you like a valued employee and not just "a student".

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I feel as though my line manager gave me increasingly more difficult tasks and projects to complete throughout the 12 months. I feel as though I was given as much opportunity as possible to progress and I my abilities were adequately tested throughout.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was never bored, that's for sure! If you're looking for an easy placement, then HMUK's not for you. But if you're prepared to work hard (and play hard...) then you'll get a lot out of it. You'll never be swamped as long as you keep focussed and manage your time well!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As much as I wanted. As long as you prove yourself, you will be treated like any other member of the team. Because the number of staff and team members isn't as large as some other Blue Chip organisations, you become a crucial member within that team and consequently have a lot of responsibility.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Several training courses relating to Corporate taxation and the tax implications for Sole Traders & SMEs came in handy with my degree (Business Mgt with Accounting & Finance). Presenting to potential & existing customers, new dealers and colleagues about a variety of topics helped me develop my presenting skills which were also important in my final year of Uni. However, the main skills I developed were those that can be transferred to other professions and industries and will no doubt help my career progression.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Providing you are working hard, there is always room for a laugh.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was a structured plan for the first two weeks of my placement which allowed me to meet all the relevant people to help me complete my role. The order of the introductory couple of weeks was perfect, starting with a HR induction and moving on to meeting the people who were important to completing my role - before learning exactly what was expected of me over the coming weeks/months.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Throughout the course of my placement, I attended a number of Hyundai & Industry specific training courses. Hyundai have a fantastic training facility 5 minutes from the Head Office in High Wycombe. Therefore, training which is going on for dealers or other HMUK employees (and is relevant to you) can easily be arranged with your line manager.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was fortunate enough to be successful for my application for a role which opened up at HMUK soon after my graduation. Hyundai is a growing brand within the UK market (and globally) and so there are always likely to be opportunities of re-employment and promotion within the company - which is a fantastic plus point.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, there was. I lived at home during my placement, which was roughly 40 miles from High Wycombe - and so I didn't socialise in High Wycombe as much as some of the other Placement students. But if I had of lived there, I certainly wouldn't have been stuck for a night out with fellow students.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I say, I lived at home (40 miles from High Wycombe) but from my experiences of H.Wycombe the cost of living is reasonable, considering it is only just outside of Greater London.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I lived at home during my placement, which was roughly 40 miles from High Wycombe - and so I didn't socialise in High Wycombe as much as some of the other Placement students. But if i had of lived there, I certainly wouldn't have been stuck for a night out with fellow students.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there were several social activities going on outside of work. Again, due to where I lived I did not participate in too many of these - but there were certainly things to get involved with.
