The Role
Both the associates and culture made Mars a highly enjoyable place to work.
As a family owned business, you settle in to the Mars family extremely quickly. You are valued as an associate rather than a student with the responsibility you receive and very quickly feel part of your team.
Mars has a huge focus on your personal development. My direct line manager provided me with both coaching and support throughout the whole placement year and continued to stretch my abilities
Application support, training, deployments and communications all part of a days work.
As a flat level organisation, the responsibility within my team was huge, communicating with all levels of the business, owning the support and service for crucial applications and managing commissioning phase of deployments.
I attended many courses and training over my placement year, including ITIL - certified service management course.
The Company
The atmosphere in the Mars office was always busy. Mars encourages you to talk to others - a very network orientated company.
The beginning of the placement was not as smooth as you would expect, unsure on timings, however, once started, the organisation around previous placement student and handover was extremely good.
A huge focus on development allowed me to attend training courses including ITIL, Project Management and Presentation skills. Mid year and end of year reviews ensure you are getting the most out of your placement and prepare you for future reviews.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Healthcare from home
I would love to return to Mars as part of the Human Resources, Business Effectiveness or Knowledge Connections teams.
The Culture
You are left to bond with the students and are not pushed by the company. We were a close group of students within the Mars Information Services Organisation
Living was quite expensive and socialising in Slough is practically non existent, but you have reading and London close by for socialising.
Need to go to Reading or London!
You had the opportunity to get involved in netball, go karting and other social events
