    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Best job ever! I had lots of opportunity to find areas I was interested in across the departments, and was given the perfect balance of long term projects I could see out across the duration of my placement and smaller interesting tasks. I gained a lot of experience in lots of areas as part of what is a great office atmosphere.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much so! There was a very sociable atmosphere, including fairy regular post-work drinks, or lunches together. I felt very much like one of the team and like my work was meaningful to them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was incredibly supportive and we had a one-on-one meeting every week where I could update her with my progress, share my work with her (particularly useful as I often assisted other departments too) and ask for any support I might have needed. We discussed what I was learning as the internship went along aswell, so I could feel the benefits and she made sure I felt like my work was fulfilling, interesting and sufficiently challenging.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied so that I felt like I was being challenged and as much a part of the project as full-time staff. However, my manager ensured I had enough flexibility to make sure I was able to take leave as I needed to and so forth.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Enough that it felt like a challenge, had ownership over my work and was learning. But not too much that I felt on my own/overburdened/uncomfortable!

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was given lots of experience in different areas and room to pursue some areas further. Analytical and research skills I developped will be particularly useful for my degree. Experiences in areas such as website commissioning and evaluation framework are very useful experiences for professional development.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There's a fantastic atmoshpere here. Colleagues get on very well, and it is often described by externals as "buzzy". However people are very purposeful and work hard - which is great to see and learn from.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I had a very thorough introduction into the organisation, its history and my role within it. I've been given lots of flexibility and support to benefit from my internship. The projects were timed so that I have been able to complete valuable tasks ahead of finishing, and don't need to leave lots of loose ends.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had the perfect balance of long term projects which lasted the length of my internship and gave me lots of ownership over work and smaller, more varied, tasks which allowed me to experience other parts of the office. I was invited into lots of meetings where I was invited to contribute meaningfully. I also got to take part in training sessions. My 1-to-1s with my manager created structure and allowed me to reflect on what I was doing.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been able to get a remote part-time job with the organisation that I can do when I'm back at university this semester - which is fantastic!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was the only long term intern whilst I was here, but those on smaller projects where lovely and the full time team really included you. There have been fairly regular post-work drinks and I have had lunch with colleagues. There isn't too much that you feel you miss out if you don't go, but there is an opportunity to relax with colleagues which definitely makes you feel part of a closer team. The office is young in age on average as well, which is great for a student intern or similar.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As it was in central London it can be expensive, luckily my family home is here. With volunteers coming int othe office, their lunch and travel expenses were covered and Frontline does not pay any of its staff less than a London living wage so I have been able to save, whilst enjoying working in central London.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I'm in central London, so it couldn't be better!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Both through work, in terms of socialising with colleagues and the activities they'll be taking out to campuses during the semester time there is lots of opportunity to get involved both formally and more informally. With the location, it meant that there was lots personally I could see and do after work as well.
