    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This is a great place to work and the people are lovely. There is a nice young community with the placement students, graduate interns and graduate scheme recruits. The location, however, is the main down-side. The content of the job is fairly interesting and I have been a fair amount of responsibility to conduct the research and create my own deadlines.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues are supportive and always answer my queries and talk to me! Very friendly.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Fairly supportive though I am left to get on with my work. I do like this though it can be difficult to work to deadlines that have not been set, I have to decide on deadlines myself to get my work done efficiently.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varies completely! I can be as bored or busy as I choose to make myself.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I am conducting the research by myself and have been given the responisibility to do this and to set up meetings and carry out other admin tasks when required.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although this placement is great, I feel that I already had the research anbd time-management skills from my degree. It has allowed me to gain work experience, however, and shows that I am willing to relocate for a job.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly working environment and had the balance just right. Too much banter would have been distracting but it had the right amount to feel relaced and friendl without being too much.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As this was a new scheme for the organisation and I was the first graduate intern to start, I was not set up with A desk, email and phone for a while at the start. This meant I spent several days doing background reading which was a bit dull. Also, I did not meet any of the placement students and graduate scheme recruits for a while. The interns that have joined more recently have found it easier to settle in as I have contacted them and arranged to meet them for lunch etc.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have been given the opportunity to go on some training courses that are being ran internally.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I like the organisation but am not too keen on the location. I would rather be working in a city.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I have people to go to the pub and watch the football with, meet people on the canteen at lunch everyday. Go out at weekends in Oxford. Very good social scene!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being in Didcot, it is a commuter town for Reading, Oxford and London. The cost of living and socialising is reasonable but not cheap. Some of the other staff live in Oxford which is further away from work and more expensive to live in, but has a better social life so I wish I had moved there.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Didcot only has a few pubs! Though Oxford is nearby and has decent nightlife. I'd recommend living in Oxford!

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I have looked into voluntary work to do alongside my placement but have not found anything locally, so I am looking in Oxford.

    3/5
