    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I write code to implement solutions for providing virtual courses and workshops for students around the world. I write a lot of python and bash scripting to control AWS. I work largely autonomously. My mentor is there if I need help, but he's busy so I trouble him only when i have exhausted all other avenues.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Developed existing skills in bash and python, learnt ansible from scratch. I'd never used AWS but had got the gist. I learnt a lot more about Linux that I didn't already know. So mainly built on pre-existing knowledge.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Depends what you consider responsibility. A badly placed command could crash a large number of servers or wipe out AWS instances, volumes and snapshots, causing mass devastation and panic, taking weeks or maybe months to fix. So yes, I guess that's responsibility.
