    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • We were all made to feel like real trainees in the firm, and given a really good level of work to complete. I gained a real insight into what working at the firm would be like and what is expected from successful trainees. Furthermore, the practice presentations every morning provided a really useful insight into all of the departments, which was particularly useful since we spent the whole two weeks in only one. There were a few social events, which allowed us all to bond as a placement group which were also good fun.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • It was a really great feeling to see my work being sent directly to a client, and I really felt like what I was doing mattered.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My trainee buddy was excellent and happy to answer any questions or clarify things. My supervisor was naturally busy, however we were only able to meet once over the two weeks, which was a shame.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The vacation placement has really emphasised the need for attention to detail and focus in pieces of work, which is always a useful skill. I also think exposure to a real working environment will assist me in developing my commercial awareness.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Our days were well structured throughout. We had two presentations from different practice areas every day for an hour, which was really useful, and we also had a CSR presentation and lunch, which again was well structured. There were two social events per week which were also really well organised and a good way to relax at the end of a day.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • All of the vacation placement students got on well which was really nice, and within your department you were genuinely made to feel welcome.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We got a really good insight into what it would be like as a trainee lawyer, and I feel my commercial awareness and legal understanding has improved over the two weeks.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We were made to feel like real trainees, and gained a good understanding of what it would really be like to have a full time job in the firm.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It was really useful to see the firms 'values' translated from a graduate brochure to the atmosphere in the office, and really nice to see those values and the culture being lived by employees.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The work I completed was similar to that which a trainee might complete, and as I really enjoyed it and found it interesting, it has reaffirmed that commercial law is my intended career path.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We all recieved £500 for the two week vacation placement.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We had office drinks once a week, to which a number of trainees came along, and also a lunch on the first day to which a number of employees came. We were also taken out for lunch with partners, which provided another opportunity to network and meet other employees.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Really enjoyable and a good way to relax. We had office drinks on each Friday, as well as being taken out bowling and for dinner, and to a comedy club for dinner too!
