    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The placement was an excellent opportunity to experience life as a trainee at an international law firm. I was given insightful work and was always made aware of the significance and relevance of it in relation to the practice area's work.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Although at first it was difficult to meet everyone and remember names and faces, everyone was approachable and happy to provide advice or work tasks. The work I was given was similar to trainee tasks and I even got to shadow my trainee mentor during a client meeting.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My trainee mentor provided guidance and support throughout the insight. She was always happy to answer any questions I had on the tasks I was given, and consistently offered advice on the application process.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was given numerous research tasks throughout the week which really increased my understanding of what my practice group did and what each task I was given went towards. The time management skills gained in particular will be useful throughout my degree and career. I feel I also gained the confidence to approach others to ask for work or just to chat about work as a lawyer.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The timetable was well organised and I was always kept up to date by email as to any changes.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was a very welcoming and motivating place to work. From security at reception saying hello and goodbye everyday, to trainees offering advice, the atmosphere in the office was professional but open.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given a variety of different work to do and encouraged to get involved with the work of different lawyers on the team.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I was given tasks that trainees would be involved with; from drafting documents to due diligence research tasks. I also had the chance to attend a training session with the practice group and so felt really involved with what was going on.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • There were numerous social events organised in order to meet people from all areas of the firm; from different practice groups to paralegals.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The inight has made me even more determined to pursue a career in commercial law. The chance to actually get involved in legal work was very motivating and insightful.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The first day of the event was hosted at the London office, and all travel expenses were reimbursed.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The trainees were very involved in the social events and so it was a great way to experience life as a trainee. Practice area presentations at the beginning of each day meant the chance to meet and get questions answered from lawyers in each area.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The events included office drinks at the end of each week where lawyers and trainees from different practice areas attended, a trip to a comedy club and a quiz.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There was a corporate responsibility lunch including a presentation about events that the firm organises and a workshop to come up with our own ideas for a CR event. While on my placement one member of my team was involved in a charity bike race, and I was encouraged to get involved with sporting events.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • It was an invaluable opportunity to gain an insight into a commercial law career.
