    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This placement has been a real insight into what it would be like to work in a finance department in a large international company. Although I would have preferred to work in practice, working in industry has given me a great depth of knowledge and experience which I can take away with my in my future career. This has been an excellent opportunity and I have learnt a lot from it

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues are welcoming and friendly and are always on hand for support. They understand that you are new into the role and are always eager to help. When you have done a good job, they are quick to praise.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The management have been great throughout the year. They are always there to support and help if you have any issues. They give you the right resources to help you in your year. On top of this they are really friendly and approachable.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were times where I am more busy, but with effective time management this was not a problem.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt that I was given a lot of responsibility in my role on the placement. With many corporate submissions, as well as meeting senior members of the company to explain their financials, the responsibility has been a great experience and has enhanced my skillset considerably.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This placement has enhanced my skills greatly, from time management, communication, organisation and problem solving. It has thrown many challenges at me which I have been able to overcome. This placement has been hard work, but it has taught me a vast amount which will be very useful to me in my future career.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is always good with a lot of cooperation and team work going on within the business.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From day 1, there was a lot of support given to us to help us through our placement. Things were organised prior to our arrival and so we were able to get straight into the role.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company offers a lot of training courses for employees which are great to utilise. This included things like web based training, product appreciation, strengths finder courses etc, all of which were designed to help you as an individual to develop yourself as well as gain a greater understanding of the company.

  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Caterpillar are a good company to work for and would be a good opportunity to take if offered a job.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a social committee at work which would arrange several events including pitch and putt and the christmas meal.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Peterborough is generally a cheap area compared to places like London

  • It's not the best but can still be good

  • There are always committees and groups organising social events outside of work.
